Computer Geek

You know exactly what is important in life – to break the record in Super Mario Bros, to build revolutionary programs on your computer, to understand how a robot works, or to cast just the right spell to save the party during roleplaying nights. Who cares what all the others think?

KEY SKILLS: CALCULATE, PROGRAM, COMPREHEND

ICONIC ITEM
Your Iconic Item says something about who you are. It will never break or be lost, and it only helps you.
DRIVE
This is why you would expose yourself to dangerous and difficult situations in order to solve Mysteries with your friends - your motivation.
ANCHOR
Your Anchor is someone you can go to for support, comfort, or care – a friend (but not another player Kid ). Spending a scene with your Anchor allows you to overcome detrimental Conditions.
PROBLEM
Everyone has a Problem. Whether you keep it to yourself or talk about it, it is a part of Everyday Life, something that worries you. During the game, the GM will use the Problem to put you in Trouble. If you solve the Problem, then you must pick a new one before the next Mystery. You should choose a Problem that you want to explore during the Mysteries. It’s a signal from you to the GM: put my Kid in this kind of Trouble!
PRIDE
Your Pride is something that makes you feel strong, important, and valuable. Like your Problem, Pride may be well known to the group or a secret, and can get you into Trouble. It can also be called upon to help you succeed (once per session).
FAVORITES
Every Kid has their favorites – favorite food, book/movie/TV show, song, recreational activity, school subject...what are yours? Write them down in the ‘Description’ field, and the Song below it (it will be used to indicate when you are being spotlighted by the GM during a future session).
PERSONAL QUESTIONS
 In what way has your Problem gone from bad to worse lately?  How do you think others react to your Pride?  What do your parents do for work? Are they together or divorced?  Do you have siblings? What do you think about them?  Have you ever been to Sweden?  What does your room look like?  What makes you angry?  What makes you happy?  What do you want to be when you grow up?
RELATIONSHIPS
Once the other players are done with the personal portion, you should define your relationships with the other Kids in the Group and NPCs. Both parties must agree . These can change from Mystery to Mystery, like most other descriptions. RELATIONSHIPS TO OTHER KIDS Choose 1 for each other Kid or come up with your own:  He/she wouldn’t survive one day in the woods alone.  How can I show him/her how I really feel?  A reliable friend. RELATIONSHIPS TO NPCS Choose 2 of the following NPCs:  Jeffrey, the sad library janitor  Officer Richards, who I’ve met at the docks on her boat  Mikey Hayes, an retired rock singer who hangs out in the woods  Mr. Boyd, a friend of the family who went “off the grid” 1 2

Tales from the Loop runs on 6 main principles that are meant to help the Gamemaster and players create the intended feeling and plot of the Mystery:

  • "Your hometown is full of strange and fantastic things"
  • "Everyday life is dull and unforgiving"
  • "Adults are out of reach and out of touch"
  • "The land of the Loop is dangerous but the Kids will not die"
  • "The game is played scene by scene"
  • "The World is described collaboratively"
